Water. It is one of our most precious resources. We drink it. Cook with it. Bathe in it. Play in it.
When we turn on our faucet, we expect clean water to flow. When our used water flows down the drain, we want to know it will be disposed of in a way that is good for the environment.
Hays County Water Control & Improvement District #1 is responsible for protecting, conserving and planning for the water needs of hundreds of Central Texans who call Belterra home.
As more families move into this beautiful Texas Hill Country community, the Water District is charged with developing the plans and infrastructure to ensure our water will continue to be safe, affordable and readily available when we need it.
The Water District has developed a two-step responsible reuse plan for Belterra that will conserve groundwater, protect water quality, and plan for the community’s long-term water needs. It is consistent with Belterra’s longstanding and award-winning commitment to the environment.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has approved the plan, which pairs the beneficial reuse of Belterra’s clean-recycled water to irrigate more than 100 acres of green space in the community with the most stringent water quality requirements in Texas for the occasional release of the clean-recycled water into Bear Creek when heavy rainfall prevents irrigation.
With an eye toward the future, the Water District is committed to providing scientifically-sound solutions that will:
- Ensure the families of Belterra continue to have a supply of clean, fresh drinking water.
- Integrate an innovative conservation plan that safely reuses clean treated wastewater to irrigate the community’s parks and trails, thus preserving precious groundwater.
- Employ the latest water treatment techniques, so Belterra residents and their neighbors will have peace of mind that any clean-recycled water is safe for families, wildlife and the environment.
